Privacy Policy and personal data protection
The members of the law firm process your personal data in accordance with EU and Belgian law, including the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (‘‘GDPR’’) and the Belgian Law of 8 December 1992 on privacy protection with regard to the processing of personal data.
They are subject to legal privilege and carry out their activities as self-employed persons. Each lawyer is considered to be a controller, within the meaning of the GDPR, of the personal data that he/she is processing.

Processing of personal data
Your personal data will only be processed to ensure the defence of your interests and optimal management of your case, within the limits of what is necessary for the performance of the services agreed between the lawyers and their client. For this purpose, your personal data may be transmitted to internal and/or external collaborators. After the closing of your file, it will be stored for a period of five years, as provided by article 2276bis of the Belgian Civil Code. Your data may also be processed for accounting and tax purposes, in order to comply with the legal obligations to which lawyers are subject.
We have a legitimate interest in keeping your contact details (name, address, telephone number and e-mail address) after the closing of your file in the event of subsequent communications. However, you have the right to object to the retention of your contact details for five years after the closure of your file and to request the deletion of these details.
You always have the right to obtain a copy of your personal data and to request any information concerning the processing of your data and your rights. You also have the right to obtain, without any costs, the rectification of your data. Finally, you have the right to request that your personal data is transferred to another controller. Those requests may be made by post (chaussée de La Hulpe 185, 1170 BRUSSELS) or by e-mail (info@hyphen-avocats.be).
Any natural person has the right to lodge a complaint regarding the processing of personal data with the Data Protection Authority (the Belgian supervisory authority for personal data protection – https://www.autoriteprotectiondonnees.be) or with any other supervisory authority within the meaning of the GDPR.
Storage of personal data
In accordance with the obligations arising from article 2276bis of the Belgian Civil Code, we are required to store your file for five years after its closing.
For the sake of efficiency, we will also store your contact information to facilitate possible communications. The data concerned are your last name, first name, address, telephone number and your e-mail address. If you wish to request that your personal data be deleted, please contact us. We will do so immediately, provided that the five year period mentioned above has passed.
Your rights
We are at your disposal to inform you about the rights you have regarding the processing and storage of your personal data, including the right to obtain a copy of your data, the right to request any information about your data and the right to request rectification of your data.
You may also request for your data to be transferred to another data controller.
